Rabbi Eliyahu is no stranger to the Carlebach Shul having grown up within the confines of our institution.  After completing high school, he pursued advanced studies in Jewish thought and practice in Caracas Venezuela, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and Connecticut. He received his rabbinical ordination from Rabbi Dovid Shochet, the revered rabbi and renown halachic authority in North America.  He continued his rabbinical studies under the guidance of leading experts in contemporary Jewish law (halacha), obtaining advanced certifications in matters of monetary jurisprudence and other areas of halacha from Rabbi Feitel Levin and Rabbi Mordechai Tendler. His joyful personality drives his commitment and dedication to his community. He is passionate about Jewish education and enjoys outreach, teaching and in-depth analysis of various contemporary topics.

Rabbi Eliyahu and his wife, Chaya, moved to Portland in 2022 and founded the Chabad at Lewis and Clark College as well as serving many of the colleges in Southwest Portland.

Rabbi Citron’s wife, Chaya, is his full partner in building the Jewish presence in Portland.  She was born and raised in Chicago and studied education and advanced Jewish thought in New York and Israel. She is a passionate educator, teaching Jewish students as well as educating her own children. She is currently also the site director at The Gan Portland Jewish Preschool. She is also an excellent chef and takes pride in catering events with delicious homemade food.
